Belgian-style Waffles (Crispy and Fluffy, 와플) 🧇
My notes for this recipe
Many different styles of waffles are popular in Korea, from simple street snacks filled with cream to thick café-style waffles served with fruit and ice cream.
This version is inspired by Belgian-style waffles, with a lightly crisp exterior and a soft, fluffy center. Serve them warm with powdered sugar, syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or your favorite toppings.
The batter is easy to prepare and works well for breakfast, dessert, or an afternoon snack.
How I cook it
Prepare the dry ingredients
Place 200 g flour in a large mixing bowl. Add the salt to one side of the flour and the dry yeast, sugar, and baking powder to the other side.
Add the wet ingredients
Add 50 ml water, 200 ml milk, and 1 egg. The ingredients should not be cold and are best used at around room temperature.
Mix the batter
Mix everything thoroughly until an even waffle batter forms. Add 50 g melted butter and mix until fully incorporated.
Rest the batter
Cover the waffle batter and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Cook the waffles
Preheat the waffle maker. Add the rested batter in portions and cook according to your waffle maker until the waffles are crisp outside and soft and fluffy inside. Serve warm.
